Public Spaces ⁄ Places
This is a series of sculptures, both built and proposed, that are situated in the public realm. Ian O'Banion frequently collaborates with artist Amir Esfahani on public art projects. As a team they are committed to creating sustainable design at all scales from the micro to the macro. Each project they work on they view as an opportunity to educate people and to empower them to make positive change in the world.
Ian comments on sustainable design: We view sustainability not only in terms respecting and enhancing the natural environment, but also in terms of communities. Creating a sustainable community is an important component of sustainable design and we feel that public art plays a pivotal role in establishing a strong and healthy community. We hope that our sculptures inspire people to celebrate public open space as a valuable community resource that we all share.
